Bhakti Yoga is simply a path to God.

Here is the basics of Bhakti yoga.

Bahkti Yoga is a yoga style that is specifically meant to be a path to god. There is no real physical side to this art in relation to Yoga postures but it is more aligned to our actions and behaviours in daily life. Here is the core of the belife they have, it is called the 9 steps.

There are nine steps that bring you to God.

  1. Hearing the name of God and listening to works (books, movies, sound files, basically anything that can be read, seen or heard) that talk about anything about God.
  2. Chanting his name.
  3. Think about God during the day.
  4. Helping other people and the world.
  5. Going to the temple (or church) and taking part in the worship of God
  6. Pray to God on a regular basis
  7. Serve God in everything you do. As well as talk about God with others.
  8. Make God the most important being in your life and develop a close relationship with Him.
  9. Surrender yourself completely to God.

Here is an interesting talk from Yogiraj Siddhanath.

In conclusion

These steps are designed to help people keep a close relationship with God. For Bahkti they believe God is Love and showing love and being filled with love brings us closer to God.

Also it is monotheistic. The people who practice it usually devote themselves to one god, such as Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, the supreme god or his energy known as Shakti. More about the specifics of each of these will be discussed in later pages that will be coming soon. Does the belief in one God and that God is love and love is God sound familiar? It makes me wonder with all the similarities between the worlds religions, why we have to fight over what to call God. When it comes right down to it, the core belief is still the same for all. Love each other and love God. The only difference is Cultures. Even my name is not pronounced the same in all the different countries I visit, and that is all during my lifetime, not over thousands of years.

For me, I hope one day all religions can accept each other as valid paths to God just as there are many roads that lead to any specific destination.
